Rescue pulleys are used by rescue teams for creating mechanical advantage systems, and we stock several pulleys suitable for this purpose. We also carry four micro pulleys designed for cavers and mountaineers for emergency rescue. There are also numerous other pulley applications, such as high ropes courses and outdoor centres.
Aspiring Enterprises imports pulleys into New Zealand from Single Rope Technique Equipment (SRTE) in Australia, Climbing Technology (CT) in the UK, Seattle Manufacturing Corporation (SMC) in the USA, and International Safety Components (ISC)in Wales. SRTE manufactures a large range of pulleys to suit any situation, of which we stock only a few of the most useful examples. Climbing Technology has only one pulley on the market at this stage. SMC manufactures various types of pulley, but most notably the prusik-minding (PMP) pulleys. ISC manufactures a small range of products for various applications.
Double-pulley systems which create a 4:1 mechanical advantage system are becoming popular in the form of a "jigger", which is a 4:1 mechanical advantage system using two double pulleys and a short length of rope.

All four manufacturers use similar materials and construction. All our stock pulleys have rotating aluminium side plates, and all but one have aluminium sheaves. The SRTE models have stainless steel versions available. Most models have a stainless steel axle with bronze bearings. The axle pins are generally non-removable to avoid the risk of mishap. The ISC pulleys, apart from the smallest, and the SMC pulleys have straight bases so that they function properly for "prusik-minding". The square end ensures that a prusik sling being used for load-capturing will block against the pulley, enabling the load to be hauled without supervision by a rescuer.

We have a good range of pulleys for rescue teams and other professional users. These large pulleys are more efficient because of the bigger size of the sheave, and generally they have better quality bearings. Pulleys which are designed for prusik-minding have squared bases, and are narrow enough to prevent the prusik cord from jamming between the side-plates of the pulley.

With double pulleys paired up a 4:1 mechanical advantage
system can be easily constructed. One or both of the two pulleys must
have a connection "becket" below the sheave for connecting the end of
the haul rope. These 4:1 systems have been used for many years, but recently
the concept of a "jigger" has been developed. This is a system set up with
a short length of rope that is used for making small movements to a load,
which might be a stretcher, a fallen person awaiting rescue, or the rescuer.
It is becoming common practice to use not one but two jiggers on a rescue stretcher. One is attached to the head of the stretcher and controls the tilt, while the other forms the rescuer's attachment, to enable easy freedom of movement.

There are numerous potential uses for a jigger. An obvious application in industrial height safety is to lift the weight of a fallen worker who is suspended by a harness and lanyard, so that he can be transferred to a lowering rope. This approach is much simpler than many of the methods currently used. We can supply all the components for a jigger, or the assembled system using six metres of 8 mm accessory cord and a 5mm prusik sling for holding the load. If the jigger is to be mounted on a rope, this can be done with a 6 mm prusik sling connected to the top karabiner and tied to the rope using a French prusik knot.
