Aspiring Enterprises started out manufacturing the Classic harness in 1980, when very little climbing gear was available, and it rapidly became the standard harness in New Zealand for both alpine climbing and rock climbing, in the early and mid 80s. Since then climbing equipment has moved on a lot and more sophisticated products, such as the Nova harness, are available. These two ground-breaking products represent book-ends in the progress of Aspiring Enterprises. Both are highly innovative and original products, and both are extremely light in weight.

Nova harness Nova harness

The Nova harness is a radically different climbing harness, designed for comfort, lightness, and hanging stabililty.

A unique attachment hoop is provided above the waist strap to make head-first falls a thing of the past. The Nova has minimalist Dyneema risers connecting to the leg loops, making a very low profile and light harness.

Because it is a departure from anything else in climbing harnesses, we have created a new web page for the Nova. Click here to go to that page.

Phantom harness Phantom harness

The Phantom harness is our internally padded harness for rock and alpine climbing. Light aluminium buckles give the Phantom adjustability and lightness, making the harness extremely versatile. Our unique overlapping gear loops bring equipment on the rear loops within easier reach.

The Phantom features our stitched-through belay loop that gives excellent stability and balance whether falling or hanging in the harness. The construction is foam-filled tubular webbing, with an externally sewn 30 mm waist strap. The leg loops are anatomically shaped for comfort.

The Phantom sizing has been changed recently to enable better fitting of the waist belt. There are now five waist belt sizes, with each size covering a smaller range and more overlap between sizes. The colour is black and purple.

Soft Rock harness Soft Rock harness

The Soft Rock was Aspiring Enterprises' first padded harness, introduced in 1988. Its combination of affordability, comfort, and adjustability have ensured its popularity, for both alpine and rock climbing. The direct attachment point positioned at waist level gives security against tipping backward, and the floating waist belt keeps the gear loops within reach. Colour is black and purple. Go to Top

Classic harness Classic harness

The Classic harness was our first product, introduced in 1980, and and became very popular for mountaineering and outdoor education due to its low price, minimal bulk, lightness, and versatility. It's a simple 50 mm webbing harness with no frills. The waist belt is quick-adjusting and requires no threading, and the harness contains no load bearing stitching, making the Classic extra safe.

From the summit of Everest to the bottom of New Zealand's deepest caves, the Classic has been used in an amazing variety of situations. Still used by adventure racers, occasional climbers, ski tourers, or anyone wanting a lightweight harness for minimal outlay. Colour is black with contrasting leg straps.
